Drake speaks and acts from experience. Not only does he understand philanthropic planning, he proactively engages in it for himself and to spur others.

Involved both Locally and Globally

Drake and his wife, Jan Elfline, have a portfolio of causes, some local, some global. Jan holds masters in glass blowing and doctorate in Art education. Thus they support art and artists variously: underwriting shows and buying art.  Additionally, they co-founded Friends of Kickapoo Creek, a watershed group to create/expand greenways to take care of their backyard -- literally. Drake also co-founded and leads the Rotary Action Group Against Malaria, working on malaria control worldwide. Also, he founded the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation based in McLean County, Illinois. Long active in Amnesty International, Drake authored “Enduring the Darkness” (2000) – a compilation of the inspiring letters of South Korean human rights prisoner Kim Seong Man that won international acclaim.

Recognized for Giving

Drake 's alma mater, Simpson College, named him Humanitarian of the Year in 1999.

Drake has won numerous community and Rotary awards, including the 1999 Lewis J. Burger Outstanding Volunteer Fund Raiser from NSFRE Central Illinois Chapter, and Rotary District 6490 Hall of Honor award in 2001.

In 2005, the local Ecology Action Center gave Drake their "World of Difference" award.

Drake and his wife, Jan, helped form an organization working to protect their local watershed, Friends of Kickapoo Creek, which was named River Steward of the Year for 2005 by the Prairie Rivers Network.
